In April 2010 NRG raised nearly $15,000 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund through a charity raffle and individual contributions during its annual leadership meeting and softball tournament at the Encina Power Station in Carlsbad, Calif. Combined with subsequent donations from NRG employees Company-wide and matched dollar-for-dollar by NRG, the total Semper Fi donation came to $43,570.
Retired U.S. Marine Master Sergeant Davey Lind joined NRG in Carlsbad to share his courageous story of hope and perseverance, and to testify about the benefits he received from the Semper Fi Fund. Every day, U.S. Marines return from the battlefields abroad with injuries that will affect them for the rest of their lives. The federal government does its part by helping soldiers recover from their wounds and rehabilitate in military hospitals.
But for the additional expenses a soldier faces following an injury—airfare for a spouse visiting the hospital, lodging for kids during weekend stays, wheelchairs and other specialized equipment, or job training and placement programs—the California-based Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund steps in to help.
NRG West Receives 2008 Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Corporate Citizenship Award
The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce recognized its exceptional volunteers at its annual First Friday Breakfast Volunteer Recognition Program on Dec. 5, 2008.
President and CEO of the Chamber, Ted Owen was quoted in the Carlsbad Business Journal stating that while the chamber is the 10th largest in the state and second largest in the county of San Diego, the main reasons for those standings is the corps of volunteers. The volunteers “are what push the reputation and viability of the chamber to the heights we have attained to date.”
Among those recognized for their respective contributions, NRG West (owner and operator of the Encina Power Station and site of the proposed Carlsbad Energy Center) earned the Corporate Citizenship Award for 2008.

A Carlsbad resident for over eight years, David Lloyd, NRG's senior counsel, spends more time out in the community than he does sitting behind his desk. He has served on the Board of Directors and as Secretary of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation since 2000. The Foundation promotes the environmental stewardship of the Lagoon through specialized curriculums and tours for the local 3rd through 5th grade students. David spearheaded NRG's financial support of the Foundation's Agua Hedionda lagoon Discovery Center.
"I enjoy being out at the Lagoon's Discovery and seeing people connect with this wonderful natural resource. The Center really does provide a unique educational experience for the community members," said David.
David is also a representative on the Public Advisory Committee for the Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project, which provides recommendations for the use of bond funds for clean water and wetlands recovery projects from San Diego to Santa Barbara. Besides his efforts in the support of environmental
causes,
David has also served on the Board of Directors of the

Chamber of Commerce for the last
three years.
