Community Activism is NRG Employee's Passion

Steve Odabashian

An El Segundo resident for more than seven years, Steve Odabashian, NRG’s Environmental Community Relations Manager, is incredibly active in the community. He has worked closely with the Board of Directors of the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce and is the Past Chairman of the Manhattan Beach Chamber. Steve is also a Board member of the South Bay Youth Projects (SBYP) and the Chairman of their recent Castle of Friends event. The SBYP is an organization dedicated to assisting youth experiencing difficulties at home, school, or in the community. Among all of Steve's community involvement, his most memorable experience has been to participate in a Career Mentoring Program where he taught high school physics at El Segundo High School as part of an effort to show students how science classes translate to the life around us. Reflecting on the class he taught, Steve said, “It was an enlightening experience to be with the students and watch them learn something completely new. The students got something and so did I." Steve is also involved with the El Segundo Kiwanis, the El Segundo Education Foundation and the Eagles American Youth Football League, and he's supported efforts to improve our schools, such as facilitating a contribution from NRG West to upgrade a middle school science lab.

Trees to the Sea

Members of the El Segundo Generating Station team spent the day planting trees on a highway median near LAX, as part of an annual "Trees to the Sea" campaign. The El Segundo team will help care for the sponsored trees.

Beauty & The Beach

Some 200 employees, friends and relatives of the El Segundo Generating Station and the El Segundo Kiwanis Club joined together to clear debris from a two mile stretch of beach and waterway in front of the El Segundo facility for the annual Beauty & the Beach Cleanup.
